Book Project

 Greetings Parents!

First, I would like to say thank you to all my parent volunteers who have been coming in and dedicating their time and energy. You are very appreciated!

I have two bits of information to share with you. One, we are starting our whole class novel study soon.  I will introduce our routines as well as the rigor of the Journal Expectations that go along with the novel with your student.

In addition to building vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency skills, 3rd graders are expected to show competence with locating evidence in a text to support their answers. We have been working on this skill and all students should be highlighting and numbering their proof in their homework as well as classwork. This skill will be the main focus of our novel study. During our study, groups will read and work independently. That said, I will begin recruiting volunteers for Novel Studies to help support students with both reading fluency and journal completion. If you are interested in helping out please send me an email!

Secondly, now that we are fully immersed in our curriculum, I wanted to let you know about our Book Projects.

Each child will be responsible for preparing a "Book Project" to be shared with the class. The "Book Project" will be given an oral expression grade. Students will be required to read and complete 2 projects per semester for a total of 4 for the year.

I will be sending home a parent letter and rubric with all the information. Please keep and eye out for this in their Monday Folder.

Here are the projected dates:
  • 1st "Book Project" due early October
  • 2nd  "Book Project" due early December
  • 3rd  "Book Project" due early March
  • 4th  "Book Project" due early May
Have a great day and thanks for visiting!
